چکیده

Gamma-valerolactone (GVL) is a highly reactive keto-lactone and promising platform biomolecule, used as an additive for food fuels, green solvent, fuels precursor, among others. Its production from biomass usually involves hydrogenation subsequent cyclization of levulinic acid or its esters. The process conventional requires high pressures temperatures, external hydrogen source, scarce noble/precious materials catalysts. However, it could be produced under mild conditions, using bifunctional metal-acid catalysts with metal dispersion meso microporosity, surface area, temperatures lower than 200 °C, ≤ 1MPa, secondary alcohols (such isopropanol) donors. catalytic transfer followed by (CTHC) (LA) esters (LE) to produce GVL H donor great alternative. Variables involved in CTHC such raw material, time, temperature, type catalyst, mainly transition metals their combinations, are reviewed this work.

Catalytic Hydrogenation and Oxidation of Biomass- Derived Levulinic Acid

Levulinic acid (LA), 4-oxo-pentanoic acid, is a new platform chemical with various potential uses. In this paper, catalytic hydrogenation and oxidation of levulinic acid were studied. It was shown from experiments that levulinic acid can be hydrogenated to γ-valerolactone (GVL) over transition metal catalysts and oxidative-decarboxylated to 2-butanone (methyl-ethyl-ketone, MEK) and methyl-vinyl...

Synthesis of Furandicarboxylic Acid Esters From Nonfood Feedstocks Without Concomitant Levulinic Acid Formation

5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) is a versatile intermediate in biomass conversion pathways. However, the notoriously unstable nature of HMF imposes challenges to design selective routes to chemicals such as furan-2,5-dicarboxylic acid (FDCA). Here, a new strategy for obtaining furans is presented, bypassing the formation of the unstable HMF. Instead of starting with glucose/fructose and thus form...

Electricity storage in biofuels: selective electrocatalytic reduction of levulinic acid to valeric acid or γ-valerolactone.

Herein, we report an effective approach to electricity storage in biofuels by selective electrocatalytic reduction of levulinic acid (LA) to high-energy-density valeric acid (VA) or γ-valerolactone (gVL) on a non-precious Pb electrode in a single-polymer electrolyte membrane electrocatalytic (flow) cell reactor with a very high yield of VA (>90 %), a high Faradaic efficiency (>86 %), promising ...

Conversion of biomass-derived levulinate and formate esters into γ-valerolactone over supported gold catalysts.

The utilization of biomass has recently attracted tremendous attention as a potential alternative to petroleum for the production of liquid fuels and chemicals. We report an efficient alcohol-mediated reactive extraction strategy by which a hydrophobic mixture of butyl levulinate and formate esters, derived from cellulosic biomass, can be converted to valuable γ-valerolactone (GVL) by a simple ...

Synthesis and Biological Evaluation of Novel Mono Acid Esters Derived from the Constituents of Urtica pilulifera

Abstract: New mono acid esters have been synthesized from the reaction of benzoic acid and mono-hydroxybenzoic acids with 2-phenoxyethanol separated from Urtica pilulifera, characterized, and screened for possible antioxidant, antifungal, antimicrobial and anticancer activities. These phenolic acid esters gave various degrees of free radical scavenging, but the values were lower than that of α-...
